The pandemic has affected many areas of life. And when you add its effects to the normal changes adolescents go through, it's not surprising that some teens may be feeling overwhelmed by emotions. A teen’s conflicting thoughts and feelings about what’s going on in their life can make it difficult to focus on schoolwork and other important activities.
To help your teens clarify their feelings, ask them to consider a few of these prompts: I feel loved when…. My biggest goal is.... It hurts me when…. I find it hard to…. I get angry when.... The thing I most want to tell you is…. I'm worried that.... My one wish is... I'm proud of.... etc.
Let them know you are available to listen to their thoughts. Just having the opportunity to talk about these topics can help teens deal with their changing lives.
